Right wing extremists and jury duty

Right wing extremists need not report for jury duty is my understanding:

I was scheduled for jury duty again on October 31, 2011.
Shortly after blurbing a few things about jury duty I got this email:

We appreciate your willingness to serve, but due to the changing needs of the court, your service is no longer required. We apologize for any inconvenience this cancellation may cause.

This cancellation does not affect your qualification to serve the next time you receive a summons, whenever that may be.Only those who appear at the courthouse for service are disqualified for three years.

Please contact the Office of Jury Commissioner at 1-800-xxxxxx (1-800-xxxx) if you have any questions.

The Michael Jackson Dr. Murray death trial.

Dr. Murray, tsk tsk tsk.  If reasonable doubt prevails, will he be the first: "Deprivan Dapper Dan?" As a potential jurist on Halloween this year, I was originally siding with prosecution, however, I find the defendant not guilty due to reasonable doubt.

Parkinson's stuff

Yesterday, the The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research
sent me a survey for clinical trial info. Gads that was annoying to fill out. It kept going on and on and on about the same questions basically.  Oddly, there were 2 spots that wanted to know if i just want to sing or play a nintendo Wii.  I wonder what  those 2 questions were about.

Oddly my symptoms seem to  mostly disapear when I turn on a camera. Perhaps they ought to do a co-related study of videoing and symptom relief.

This blasted  disease really sucks!

The Ring Neck Snake

One day, my daughter and I were doing some pruning and when we returned to put the tools away she said: "Look, there's a snake."

I am sorry, I was looking for the regular back yard denizen around here, the garter snake or the milk snake or perhaps the rareish ribbon snake.  All of those I have seen in our yard before.  However, I was looking right where she was pointing and didn't see any of them.

She said, "It's right there, its black."

Oh my goodness, I wasn't focusing on anything that small, it was a 6" ringneck snake. Last time I saw one of them was about 35 years ago when I was a kid.

I caught it and we put it in a plastic container so I could show her the snake closer up.  We discussed it and looked at it, and I took some pictures of it.  Then we released it back where she found it.  I did a slide show here from the images I took. These snakes are so pretty.  We haven't seen it since.

Fishspace Productions Message Boards

Well, after years of working 3 jobs and neglecting my orignal computer programming, I have had the time today to revisit it.

I spent a few years developing some message boards about Martha's Vineyard ("The Martha's Vineyard Message Board" A.K.A. MVMB) and our ASAP Aquarium Message board for fishkeepers.

I have been so busy with 3 jobs and a family for the past 5 years that I ignored them.  A few months ago I checked them to be amazed by the weeds of spam growing deeply into the boards.

I spent a few days trying to clean them up but realized that I had lost control and just decided to shut the posting function off to stop the spam.

Today, I installed a new, more normal, messaging system and tied the boards together.

I plan on installing the chat functioning into it also eventually. Work in progress.

Here is the link: Fishspace Productions Message Boards

For those that used to  frequent the boards, I am sorry that I have been away for so long, I hope you enjoy the new style. Suggestions welcome.

Political challenges influencing (or not) Those serving on the bench

Federal Court Judges in a panel forum for the Martha's Vineyard Center for Dispute Resolution. A mediation group for informing the public via MVTV with this show about how Judges perform their duties.

I Shot and edited this video for the MVCDR.

Its a panel forum of Federal Court Judges discussing what they do on the bench.
Great video, very educational about the Judicial branch of the United States Government.

I burned 2 DVDs for the group. After about a year, they are still sitting on my computer. I see the contact on a very regular basis and I am just so busy I never have the time to test the DVDs and finish them for her.

Deborah, if you find this, please keep reminding me, I am such a procrastinator on this end of things. I figured if I threw it on YouTube it may be closer to you.

I really enjoyed this shoot, The Edgartown Whaling Church is such a major challenge for me. Getting the audio and lighting is extremely tricky. The orignal raw footage is very yellow. I applied a color correction effect to bring it back to near normal.  Odd, since I white balance every time I shoot, but these indoor things have a tendancy to change since most of my shoots are at about dusk and transitioning into night.

I have other ways of compensating for that though. The audio in this building is very difficult. Getting questions from the audience is such a hit or miss. In addition to using a Sony wireless on the audience microphone piggyback I always have a long audiotechnica shotgun pointed at the audience to boost it if needed.

Typically, on these type of shoots I use 2 crown tabletop microphones for the panel, a dedicated left channel wireless on the moderator/speaker podium, a second wireless in the sound mixer for the audience. 2 crown tabletop microphones aimed at the audience and an audio-technica shotgun on a swivel mic stand that I can swing around for anyone not hearable.

I use a Mackie 1402 mixer and tons of XLR cables.

AUDIO IS INCREDIBLY CRUCIAL to me and I spend most of my setup time making sure I have adequate audio in place as well as backups if any part fails.

I do take feeds from available mixer systems, if offered, but I always have my setup separately ready for use. I have seen feeds fail or go black and I still have my setup completely available if so.

Barack Hussein Obama's 2011 Martha's Vineyard vacation arrival

I was done with work and Obama was arriving soon. I wasn't planning on being there, but since I was less than a quarter mile away and the timing worked out I decided to go video the event.

He isn't even in this video, hiding behind the school bus barricade upon arrival and quickly whisked away. This is the raw, unedited version of the video I did.

I have 2 other edited versions: one that youtube doesn't mind because I did the music score for:

And 1 listed in the description of that version that has some of what I thought was fair use blips of songs.

Suffice it to say, I am a Right Wing conservative politically. I really despise what our current administration is doing to the country with its socialistic Marxist policies.

The Shower, a Reconstructive Nightmare

On my unfinished projects list is the shower reconstruction I did.
I did a huge pile of stills of a shower surround I got from Home Depot.

After ripping the tiling off the walls I found huge amounts of unexpected work, like re-insulating and mold to sterilize.

The most time consuming part of the project was discovering the shower mixer plumbing fixture was utterly corroded after 30 years of acidic water from our well.

I needed to re-plumb the entire shower from the floor up. I also raised the shower head since I am 6'7" and tired of hitting my head on low shower heads.

Sometime, when I have  some time, I will finish this project and put it on MVTV.
Working with stills is very time consuming.

I would also like to thank Cottle's Lumber, and Ace Hardware and plumbing supply, Hinckley's hardware, Vineyard Plumbing Supply and Chris Freid for parts, knowledge and help.

Stills of Virgil the Sheep Part deux

These are Drue-cam webcam captured stills from 1998 of Virgil the sheep from the second encounter I had with him. The odd thing about Virgil and my old webcam was that "Internet Tonight" did a blurb on my webcam and they wanted to know what was up with the sheep on my webcam. It was purely random.

I would never have known about this piece on my webcam except an ICQ friend in Trinidad saw it and was chatting with me when she saw it. She was shocked and told me about it. I emailed the producer and they sent me a copy of the show.

Blasted Hi-8 tapes, that is another tape that split while trying to capture it recently. I really need that splicing block.

Here are the stills, I have this captured and will do a video when I can piece them together:

Projects I found tonight

I captured 2 of my hi-8 tapes today.

Sadly, I had 3 others break in the camera. I can fix them but I need to buy a splicing block and some tape. Rather expensive for what it is.

On the 2 tapes I captured are these items:
Family Christmas
My baptism at our church
Fishtank footage
July 4th Parade in Edgartown (street level)
Some of our trip to Franconia Notch, NH just before the Old Man crumbled.
Springtime on Southroad (including footage of Virgil the sheep and Mary)
The Field Gallery
Epicenter Internet cafe
a huge outcropping of mushrooms where we used to live
(4 hours of tape captured)

I want to tie the Virgil footage in with him walking down Edgartown, but I am worried the footage is on one of the broken tapes.

Let me know if you want any of that processed ahead of the snail pace I work on.

Sunset Overlooking Tashmoo 1998

This is a sunset over the Tashmoo Overlook in 1998.

In 1998 I was heavy into videoing stuff around the island with my HI-8 camera.
I would then capture random shots from the tapes for my Webcam.

Disneyland, Its a Small World After All - Ambiently

Ambient screaming ride. We went into "It's a small world" ride at Disneyland. I figured I could shut my camera off and take a break.  Then, my wife says: "This is probably the most important ride here, why is your camera off?"  On it went.  I missed the beginning of the ride.  I thought it would go well with some screaming ambient music.

Our Hummingbirds, Mushrooms and other backyard nature

Looks like they are getting ready to leave so I did some video on our hummingbirds.
Also went on a mushroom hunt in the backyard with the kids, decided to include a
few stills of that.  I have more for another video though.

Re-edited version ready for cable station.
I re-edited my earlier work (5 hour re-edit time)
Added new pictures and fixed some other stuff.
This is the version I will be running on MVTV shortly.
Hummingbirds, Mushrooms and other backyard bugs, plants, et al.

I rescored this version and muted the previous track of Bach that I had

Valley of Fire - Las Vegas

While in Las Vegas, we went to tour "Valley of Fire."
It was awesome, very hot and way worth the trip.
Here is a video of some of the stuff we saw while there.

Disneyland With All the Works

At the end of our day at Disneyland, I videoed the fireworks.
I thought it came out good, I ran it on MVTV and got lots of plays on channel 13.

The Lost Vegas Episode

A quirky video I did to experiment with some of the offbeat special effects that I am normally afraid to touch for my regular work. I shot some video of the inside of a lighted cup at the Rainforest cafe at the MGM grand hotel where we had lunch.

I decided to throw really weird effects on it and then added a cinematic score to the whole thing, figured I would experiment with velocity envelopes as well.

It's quick, odd and just plain quirky.

President Barack Hussein Obama's Taxpayer funded Arrival for his Martha's Vineyard Vacation 2011

I decided to edit out some of the fodder of the last video and add some stuff for debate. Have at it folks. Bolder Fresher.

Youtube is limiting my fair use stuff so I muted that track and uploaded this

Sheepwalk Virgil test

This is a test of my video idea.

I am going to test this with this quick unedited video of Virgil the Sheep.

That is  Virgil the sheep.
I videoed that in 1998 and captured that with my old rainbow runner capturing system I used for my webcam: Druecam back in 1998.

When I find the videotape I will recapture the entire segment and followup footage from another location and make a far better video of this.

Yes, Virgil is walking down the road in front of St. Andrew's church. Guess who he is following: Mary, his owner.

Ask questions, leave comments please.

I am about to embark on a huge video publishing project on Youtube.

I figure I will use this blog as a way to describe the videos in more detail or take comments from viewers etc.

I am not really sure where this will go or what it will turn into, but figure I need the place for when I get started.

Welcome to my haphazardry.
